Faces Project Inc. 2008 Schedule of Events

 

3rd Annual International Ethnic Health Fair & Prostate Screening

Sunday March 30th, 1pm-5pm:

Location: Thurgood Marshall Center1816 12th  Street, NW

         (A well used community facility located in the heart of Adams Morgan U St Corridor)

            Purpose of this event is to continue to expand the integration of modern

            medicine and prevention,  to DC area ethnic cultures and immigrant population

2nd Annual Afro-American Men Health Walk and Run (5 & 10 K)

Saturday April 26th,  9am to Noon

Location: Turkey Thicket Recreation Center

@ 1100 Michigan Avenue

(Known: as “Turkey Thicket” at the cross roads Brookland Metro, CUA, and Michigan Ave Bridge.)

Event would be comprehensive: biking, cooking demonstrations,

Preventative screening: Blood pressure, Cholesterol, Obesity, Prostate

4th Annual “Real Men Cook” Father's Day Food Celebration.

Sunday June 15th  3pm-7pm

National Music Center - 801 K Street NW WDC

on NY Ave @ K St. & 7th

A nationally recognized celebration of “Food, Fathers and Family” In Washington DC, The Faces Project will be responsible only for the Health Pavilion 5000 sqft of Health education, information, screening and activities separate from food event. The event is always held on Father's Day or Father's  Day Weekend ,keeping in uniformity with the other celebrating cities: Atlanta, Phoenix, Chicago,  New York … ten cities in 2008

4th Annual Men's Prostate Health Forum

Thursday September 11 th, 3pm-7pm

Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Library, 9th & G Sts NW

“September” is nationally recognized as “Prostate Cancer Awareness Month” (PCAM)

The Goal during this Month is get hospitals, clinics to provide“free” PSA and DRE screening in their immediate community, also to get local politicians, health leaders, to reconfirm their commitment to eliminating prostate cancer disparity in DC by 2010.

The exact Date and Church location has not been released by the Elders.This is usually confirmed in June. Faces has been invited to speak on Men's Health and provide PSA Screening for the last two year, we anticipate the same courtesy in 2008. 

Two additional Men's Health and PSA Screening events in 2008:

Northern Virginia and Montgomery County  

To be announced in March, for July and September, respectively
